Miss Theresa is a long-time resident of Savannah who began providing swim lessons over 25 years ago. Theresa took her love of teaching and founded her own private business where she served countless families in the area for 10 years before joining the team at the Savannah JEA. 

Ben Messore

Aquatics Manager

Ben is originally from Rhode Island, but has been in Savannah for over six years. He manages/coaches the JEA Orcas Swim Club, assists with swim lessons and manages the lifeguards. Ben has a Masters of Sports Administration degree from Arkansas State University. He has been providing swim lessons for 10 years and has coached other sports including soccer, baseball and basketball. He is now making quite a splash at the J!

Bea Stavenger

Swim Lesson Instructor

Bea grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Despite being from the Midwest, she has spent most of her life in and around the water. She started swimming competitively in middle school and continued through her senior year of high school. Bea had been teaching swim lessons for about a year. She found her way down to Savannah to study sequential art at SCAD and fell in love with the city. She heard about the JEA from a friend and the rest is history!

Mandi Gills

Swim Lesson Instructor

Born and raised in Savannah, Mandi enjoys taking dance, and is embarking in track this year. Learning new things is what she likes to do. Her favorite thing to ever learn was how to teach swimming. She can't wait to expand on her knowledge and teach everyone how to swim!

Yisanny Contreras

Swim Lesson Instructor

Yisanny is originally from the Dominican Republic but grew up in Atlanta. She is an interior design major at Georgia Southern University. After teaching both her siblings how to swim during the pandemic she decided she would like to learn how to teach professionally. Yisanny spent most of her life swimming. She competitively swam in middle school and high school on the swim teams. Yisanny enjoys gardening, and going to the beach with friends. She really enjoys learning new things.

Peter Maierhofer

Swim Instructor

Peter grew up in Carrollton, Georgia, where he swam competitively for the Carrollton Bluefins Swim Team for 12 years until aging out at 18. He has taught competitive swimming as an assistant coach, taught swim lessons for the last 30 years from infants to adults and is an instructor for the American Red Cross in Lifeguard Training. Currently, he is the Assistant Director for the Recreation and Leisure Services Department for the City of Savannah. He has three daughters, and in his spare time, enjoys reading and running.
