Health and Safety

Our number one priority at the JEA has always been to provide a safe and engaging environment for all of our attendees and staff. Our programs may change and new health and safety guidelines may be implemented during our program session. The situation is fluid; updates and changes to these policies may occur.

Safety and Wellness Procedures and Protocols include:

  • Any camper who displays visible symptoms of illness will be sent home upon arrival to the JEA. This includes but is not limited to: fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, rash, and/or lethargy.
  • We ask that you err on the side of caution and be especially sensitive to all of our families and the possibility of contagions.
  • Any camper that has a fever needs to be kept home until they are symptom and fever-free for 24 hours without any medication.

A Team Leader will attempt to notify parents/guardians immediately of issues they deem to be major. For medical emergencies, 911 will be contacted. We generally do not call parents/guardians regarding minor issues which are easily taken care of and do not significantly affect the camper’s day, such as cuts, scrapes, bruises and insect bites. Campers that receive any type of first aid will be given a note to take home describing the issue and the treatment provided.

Head Lice:

The JEA Children's Department takes every instance of head lice seriously and takes precautions to prevent its spread. If a camper is found to have head lice while at the JEA, a parent/guardian will be notified and the camper will be required to be picked up immediately. After 24 hours of proper treatment, and once all nits have been removed, the camper may return to our programs. Upon returning to the JEA, the camper will have a head lice screening by a team leader. If nits are found, the camper will not be permitted to return to camp. If the camper is nit free, they will be permitted to return to the program.
