Summer Day Camp Counselor Job Description
Overview:
JEA Camp Savannah is looking for enthusiastic and attentive Camp Counselors to lead, support and motivate campers as they enjoy all that our camp has to offer. To succeed as a Camp Counselor, you should be upbeat, proactive and caring while focused on giving campers a fun and safe camp experience. Counselors will work together supervising, monitoring and participating in all activities including field trips, sleepovers, arts and crafts, sports and games. While doing so, counselors are expected to serve as an appropriate role model for the campers under their care. 
Responsibilities:
Participate in team trainings and meetings
Follow all JEA standards as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Assist in the supervision of all aspects of the campers’ day
Lead and assist campers in activities as assigned
Maintain good public relations with campers, other JEA staff and parents/guardians
Other reasonable duties may be assigned as required by the Camp Directors(s) or Team Leaders
Memorize all emergency procedures and enforce camp rules
Follow the camp schedule
Ensure that all campers are safe and accounted for at all times (constant head counts)
Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports and attendance
Communicate with Camp Directors and Team Leaders about any behavioral problems or incidents that may occur
Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check and reference/character check
First aid and CPR certified (provided by the JEA)
Have reliable transportation to work and arrive on time
Able to remain active and engaged for 8 hours at a time
Ability to supervise with a 1 to 12 ratio of counselors to campers
Physical ability to participate in activities: run, climb, swim, lift, or support the weight of campers both indoors and outdoors
Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
Upbeat and engaging personality
Ability to use positive behavior management techniques with campers and an ability to adapt to difficult situations with a sense of maturity, safety, tact, and poise
Good integrity, character, attitude and adaptability
Set good examples for campers such as: cleanliness of cabins, good sportsmanship and active participation
