Principal Responsibilities:
The Health and Wellness Director is responsible for the overall management of the Health and Wellness Department, including direct oversight of fitness, wellness, aquatics, recreational sports for youth and adults, and special department events. The Health and Wellness Director reports directly to the Executive Director/CEO.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise, evaluate, and work closely with professional team members including Aquatics Manager, Swim Lesson Coordinator, and Recreation Coordinator, to offer a diverse, high-quality, comprehensive menu of recreational programs to the JEA and Savannah community;
- Develop annual goals, learning outcomes and appropriate assessment tools, and a calendar of events/programs designed to maximize participation, learning, and engagement in each specific Health and Wellness program;
- In conjunction with professional staff, develop effective and efficient operating policies, procedures, and protocols for each program area;
- Work collaboratively with other departments to create and ensure comprehensive procedures for all program areas;
- Manage financial resources within budget limits and in accordance with JEA guidelines under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Director/CEO by planning, developing, and overseeing designated budgets. Responsible for the creation and execution of department-wide special events designed to promote the JEA brand and raise awareness for the department and the organization;
- Work with the Executive Director/CEO to develop and implement marketing, promotions and strategic initiatives;
- Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses;
- Work in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Committee to ensure the success of programs and offerings;
- Support the overall success of the JEA by completing special projects and performing other duties as assigned;
- Recruit, hire, and develop the Health and Wellness staff, including Fitness desk support staff, personal trainers, and group fitness instructors;
- Work closely with Membership Coordinator to maintain member relationships and cultivate referrals;
- Participates in departmental and agency training, staff meeting, supervisory and Professional development conferences, committees, and special events.Serves as staff to Camp and Children's department programming and committee;
- Organizes and schedules staff coverage for Health & Wellness facilities;
- Ensures that personal and safety training certifications are up to date;
- Establish and maintain staff schedule;
- Maintain all records per local and federal legal requirements;
- Promote and inform employees of all marketing promotions and new policies;
- Maintains highest standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas.Insures that staff conducts routine maintenance and housekeeping checks on all facilities and equipment.

- Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards and first aid
- Knowledgeable in health & fitness programming and equipment
- Previous supervisory and management experience;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Core computer skills and knowledge of software applications as related to fitness;
- The ability to build strong relationships and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, members and guests;
- Flexibility to work with a wide variety of people and environments;
- Prior experience in personal training or group fitness;
- Physical effort required to carry out daily duties such as lifting supplies and gym equipment potentially in excess of 50lbs
Salary:
$55,000 - $65,000
