Music has a way of becoming part of who we are. It is found in the countless hours of practice, the moments of frustration and growth, the confidence built through performance, and the quiet connection between a musician and their instrument. Young artists spend years developing their skills, finding their voices, and learning the discipline required to pursue something they love. The show, Simply Music, was created to honor this connection, celebrate the commitment, and remind us that these moments of growth are worth remembering.
Through this fine art portrait series, photographer Angela Hopper-Lee wanted to capture young musicians not only as performers, but as artists. Each image celebrates the dedication, creativity, and individuality behind the music — the person who exists beyond the notes on a page.
Using timeless black-and-white portraiture, she sought to create images that feel both powerful and intimate. Her goal is to highlight the emotion, personality, and passion that each musician brings to their craft while preserving this meaningful chapter of their journey as a work of art.
