AmiciMusic Concert, "Jewish Jazz"

2:00PM - 4:00PM

Jewish Educational Alliance 5111 Abercorn St.
Savannah, GA

The Savannah Jewish Federation will present a special concert entitled "JEWISH JAZZ" on Sunday, March 9 at 2:00.  Pianist Daniel Weiser, who recently moved to Savannah, will join forces with Baltimore-based clarinetist Seth Kibel in this concert that highlights the interconnections between Klezmer music and early American Jazz.   These two musical idioms collided in New York City in the early decades of the 20th century as one-third of the Jewish population left Eastern Europe at the same time as the Great Migration of African-Americans from the South brought Ragtime and Blues to the North.  Jazz clarinetists Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw both got their early training in Synagogues and utilized many Klezmer techniques in their music.  Kibel and Weiser will perform works by Goodman and Shaw as well as Klezmer-style pieces by Kogan, Kovacs, Sargon, and more.

Dr. Weiser is the founder and Artistic Director of AmiciMusic, a chamber music organization which specializes in intimate, thematic, and educational concerts and also aims to break down the barriers between audiences and performers.  He started AmiciMusic in Asheville, NC and later in Baltimore, MD and is now bringing this organization to Savannah   For more info on AmiciMusic, please visit: https://www.amicimusic.org/
