Edward Jones - Artist

Edward Richard Jones is a sculpture. He works with wood that he gets from friends and tree services. After a stint in the Navy, he attended Rhode Island College where he majored in metals and jewelry design. While there, he discovered his love for sculpture. While at Rhode Island College, Ed was asked if he could teach an after-hour’s class for sterling silver jewelry making. He was also asked to teach the same course at the University of Rhode Island. He spent three years studying art in college before economics forced him to leave and get a job as a jewelry designer.

Said Ed, “The artist in me could not deal with changing my designs to save the department store buyers ten to twenty cents per piece. I took a job as a stone setter and stopped doing my own art. After about ten years of looking for what was missing in my life I went back to doing art.” This is when he started carving figures and other sculptures. Two years later, he went to the Artful Deposit Gallery in N.J. They accepted and displayed his work.

Ed has been teaching himself about casting and is now sand-casting Aluminum. He retired from the workforce in 2013 and is now striving every day to make his artwork better. He works with wood, sterling silver, copper, aluminum and brass.

“I try to express the beauty of each element I work with,” says Ed.
