In director Maysaloun Hamoud's impressive feature film debut (she just turned 35!), three Palestinian women attempt to balance faith and tradition with their modern lives while living in the heart of Tel Aviv. The Hungarian-born Hamoud takes a light yet nuanced approach to dramatizing complex, timely themes, enriched by outstanding cinematography and powerful performances. The CinemaSavannah screening is your only opportunity to catch this #1 Israeli film of last year.  In Hebrew and Arabic, with English subtitles. 103 minutes.

"Whether by serendipity or prophetic insight or some combination of the two, it's a perfect movie for the moment." New York Times
"There's a double meaning to the title of this intriguing and defiantly feminist film out of the Middle East."   Toronto Star
"[A] sharp, wise and vibrant ode to female independence. "  Los Angeles Times
"An engaging, revelatory slice of life."  San Francisco Chronicle
"It's an affecting work that refuses to shy away from the vileness of ingrained Islamic intolerance, all of which, in this case, is targeted at women."   Daily Beast
"There's little sense of grievance or victimhood here, only a liberating anger and a sharp but empathic intelligence that pops up in unexpected places."   NPR
"In Between highlights how difficult it will be to make substantive change in the world's most patriarchal societies." Globe and Mail
"The performances are fantastic - as the gorgeous, headstrong Laila, Mouna Hawa is mesmerising."   Time Out
