PJ Library Savannah, Savannah Jewish Federation and Jewish Educational Alliance are proud to announce our participation in the 1st Pre-Passover Bedikat HaMayim, or International Jewish Waterfront Cleanup Day.

Traditionally, Passover is a time when we remove Chametz (any food product that is allowed to ferment and rise) from our homes. The Earth is also our home, and 70% of it is covered with water. So, we need your help to remove a different type of "Chametz" from our beaches: plastic snack bags and bottles that contained Chametz, plastic cutlery that served Chametz and plastic bags that carried Chametz. We want to get rid of it all!

The goal of this global cleanup is to keep the many issues facing water and the marine environment in front of the Jewish community, and to provide additional opportunities to take action.

​Incorporating Bedikat HaMayim into Jewish life allows individuals to connect their spiritual and ethical values with environmental stewardship, while being part of a global movement.

We hope you will join us as we foster a deeper sense of connectedness with the natural world, the global Jewish community, and promote positive change.

Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring sunscreen. We will provide everything you need to help us clean our waterfront, and we will also bring water and snacks!
